Discover the contrasts of this miniature version of a continent, where there is a mixture of spaces of great beauty. The island, located in the Atlantic ocean, boasts enormous natural wealth.
Telde. The second most important city on the island. The Barrio de San Juan (San Juan Quarter) is a must-see, as the original city centre. Around the original Church of St John the Baptist and the Plaza Mayor (main square), another historic place of great cultural value is the Barrio de San Francisco (San Francisco Quarter), where the enquiring visitor will understand right away that the quarter as a whole is much more than a small cluster of little streets in the city of Telde.
The Caldera de los Marteles Our second stop will be on the edge of a volcanic caldera, at 1,530 metres above sea level, a landscape created by a volcanic eruption, one of the great treasures of this natural reserve.
El Pico de las Nieves. The highest viewpoint on Gran Canaria, from which to discover this little continent. Roque Nublo can be seen from here, one of the most emblematic natural spaces on the island, along with El Roque Bentayga, the Caldera de Tejeda, and, if the day is clear, Tenerife’s Teide can also be seen, Spain’s largest volcano.
La Cruz de Tejeda. This is a mountainous spot in a setting of great beauty, famous for its outstanding views over the island and the “Cruz de Tejeda” large 17th century stone cross presiding over the village’s entrance and which marks the geographical centre of Gran Canaria.
Fataga. A landscape of palm trees growing alongside Canary Island pines in this town, an unusual sight well worth seeing. This is a town with various houses in the traditional Canary Island style, with their spectacular views of the mountains and over the valley of the thousand palm trees. A visit to this pretty Canary Island town is not to be missed.
El Mirador de la Degollada de las Yeguas. This lookout point is one of the most notable places in all of Gran Canaria, a unique extraordinary landscape, found nowhere else in all the Canary Island archipelago. All the territory of this zone forms part of the Gran Canaria World Biosphere Reserve.
